Step 4: Register with
Civil Registry of Marriage

wp-image-47865194jpeg.jpg

Do not go ahead with the civil registration until and unless you have attended the CMPC and filled up your PNI with your parish priest. Obtain and fill up application form from the Registrar of Marriages. A Publication of Banns grace period of 3 consecutive weeks is required. This Publication of Banns will be put up in the parish also. JPN usually fixes a date six weeks or more after the 3-weeks grace period before you are called to appear before a Commissioner of Oaths or a Magistrate for the Statuary Declaration (in the presence of two witnesses).

Documents required for Civil Registrar are:

  • Individual passport-sized photographs of the bride and groom

  • Photocopy of identity cards of the bride and groom and 2 witnesses

  • Stamp fees: RM 50.00 + RM 3.00 for Certificate (amount subject to change)

  • Any other documents required

(All photocopies must be provided in A4 size)

Note: Copy of Civil Marriage certificate is to be given to Parish Priest. Due to the sacredness of the Sacrament, after the civil registration, couples do not stay together as husband & wife until after the Church wedding
